KOA missed opportunity?
If KOA started broadcasting in 1924, their 85th anniversary would have been 2009. But not a peep about that from the blowtorch? Did they blow it?

I want to do a renewed KOA Farm Show at 5 AM.
Having once worked in Wyoming, I can do the price of hay, barrows and gilts, weather,, steers and cows, Alfalfa prices.
Waiting for your call, Lee.

Making hay before the sun shines, eh?
Looks like the 5,000-watt signal of KSIR-AM 1010 from Fort Morgan is filling that bill now -- complete with venerable Mizzou alum Evan Slack, who used
to do the 5 a.m. ag block on KOA until the early '80s.
KOA long since wrote off ag news. Interestingly, one of the blowtorches in the nation's third-largest market still does it. Tune in WGN-AM 720 in the
pre-dawn hours and get your fill of those barrows and gilts from the equally venerable Orien Samuelson.

Sorry if my history was sloppy.
I just figured, as hard as radio stations try to cram their signal number down your throat, like letting you win $95.5 dollars, or be the 101st
caller, or you've got 630 seconds to call in, that the 85th anniversary of KOA would be noteworthy. Especially to a "heritage" station.
Plus, I can hear some pretty cool promos in my head using whatever archived audio they might have.

Five years ago, KOA did quite a bit for its 80th anniversary. And DenverRadio.Net covered it here:

KOA could cut cheesy promotional spots about the award it won. |
Here's what they should have done. They should have held a contest for listeners to send in their photos of KOA from over the years. Who
knows what great KOA photos the people of Denver (and across the country) have in their attics? That would have involved the listeners, and driven
huge web traffic at the same time to see the nostalgic photos that had previously been gathering dust. And just like any contest, the photos then
become property of KOA/Clear Channel.
Thanks for the link, Boon, to the old thread.
