Great music at Gold Hill Inn to benefit KGNU
Want to take a beautiful Sunday drive, hear some great music, nosh on some fun food and help a fine public radio station?
You can do it all on Sunday, July 18, at the 22nd annual Charles Sawtelle Mountain Jam in Gold Hill.
Gates are open from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine, in the side yard at Gold Hill Inn. The musical lineup includes Oakhurst, Sarah Siskind
and Friends and the Blue Canyon Boys. Listen while you feast on slow-cooked Texas-style barbecue, salads, homemade desserts and micro-brew beers.
Organizers ask that you don't bring coolers or pets.
Proceeds from the event will benefit public radio station KGNU -- FM 88.5, AM 1390 and various translators. The station is celebrating 32 years of
serving the community.
Tickets are $15 for KGNU listener-members or $20 for the general public. Purchase them by calling KGNU at 303-449-4885.
Gold Hill is a rustic little mountain town in the foothills of Boulder County. You can get there by taking Colo. 119 through Boulder Canyon to
Fourmile Canyon Road, then up to Gold Hill through the little communities of Salina and Chrisman. But the far more direct (10 miles) and prettier
drive is to follow Mapleton Avenue west in Boulder until it becomes Sunshine Canyon Drive. It switchbacks up through the hills and eventually becomes
a wide, smooth dirt road -- but as it crests the hill just before descending into the village of Gold Hill, you're treated to a jaw-dropping panorama
of the snow-topped Continental Divide peaks.
Organizers encourage you to carpool to the event or consider taking the shuttle from Boulder; information is at http://www.the-climb.com .
BTW, Charles Sawtelle, who died in 1999, was the lead guitarist for the Boulder-based band Hot Rize.
